Innovative Learning Web App
Project Description
We developed an online program focusing on essential life skills, such as road safety, handling gang crime, and staying secure on the internet. Our aim was to address these skills from early childhood to age 21.
This digital platform, accessible to all, operates around the clock without the need for staffing. Schools can access the training through interactive whiteboards in their classrooms, utilising existing hardware instead of costly new headsets. This approach ensures broad access and prioritises collaborative, practical learning experiences.
My Role
An earlier prototype of the ‘town’ focused on a more realistic look, but also proved incredibly resource-intensive due to the many textures required to make it look authentic. I suggested going with a look akin to that popularised by Synty Studios. The main challenge here was that the town was UK-based and the Synty buildings and characters were all mainly based on their American counterparts. My responsibilities included:
- Taking dual-responsibility on modelling, texturing, optimising and laying out the buildings and various other related objects of an entire town in a ‘UK style’, including structures such as pubs, schools, mosques, train stations, tower blocks and residential houses
- Modelling, rigging and animating characters to suit the UK setting, such as emergency service workers, municipal workers and school children
- Writing scripts in 3DSMax Maxscript to enable the mass processing and export of 100s of different town objects
- Creating a promotional fly-over video of the town
